Archives Education Collaborative

Five university programs in archives, information and library science or public history—Auburn University, Indiana University, Louisiana State University, Middle Tennessee State University, and University of Wisconsin Milwaukee—form the AEC, a collaborative for sharing faculty and students specializing in archives management. The AEC partners hold classes through compressed video which allows the instructor and one class at any one site to interact with students at the other four sites in live audio and video exchanges that come very close to the traditional classroom experience.

Each university brings a particular strength to the collaborative.

The IU, LSU, and UWM archival tracks are parts of schools of library and information science.

The AEC courses from LSU offer students a thorough preparation in the description of archival materials, metadata creation for archival materials, and the various software technologies available to archivists for description of these materials. University of Wisconsin Milwaukee offers a generalized course in the impact of the digital environment on archives management. Indiana University courses focus on Records Management both in paper and electronic form.

By allowing students to choose among these five programs, the AEC partners provide as broad and deep a concentration in archives management as any program in North America. You can explore more of the AEC's proposed course offerings and future programs by viewing the AEC’s website.
