On CampusProgram Philosophy
LSU established its archives track at SLIS in 2001 and has developed a program that meets or exceeds the opportunities offered by most archives programs in the United States. The LSU program starts with a strong foundation and expands out to a wide variety of courses on topics to accommodating students' academic and professional interests. Courses engage students in the exploration of archival theory, but they emphasize applying theory to practice. By providing students with an exceptional knowledge and skill base, the archives track at LSU prepares students for success in their careers.
Facilities
On a campus covering more than 2,000 acres in Baton Rouge, La., SLIS sits within a three-minute walk of the administrative buildings, the main library, the Special Collections library, and the student union. Housed in a suite of offices within a building containing departments as diverse as Computer Science and Theatre, SLIS has classrooms dedicated to its use and equipped to its needs. In addition, it has a specialized lab which provides programs and support specifically for archives, library, and information science applications.
