The Midwest Archives Conference is one of the nation's largest regional professional associations for archivists. Founded in 1972, MAC now has more than 800 individual members. MAC's institutional members include a variety of corporate, government, religious, and university archives, as well as historical societies and other manuscripts repositories and special collections.
The MAC region is the 13 heartland states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. However, MAC has individual and institutional members from many other states--and even other nations--and more are always welcome.
MAC's Annual Meeting is held each spring, and features more than two full days of presentations, panel discussions and workshops on a broad range of subjects germane to archival work. The added tours and social events add to the atmosphere of collegiality for which MAC is known.
In the fall, MAC sponsors a Symposium on a focused topic. This smaller, content-rich offering provides an intimate and in-depth exploration of issues on the cutting edge of the archives profession.
