ARCHIVES 2015: Call for Pop-Up Session Proposals

The ARCHIVES 2015 Program Committee invites submission of proposals for the inaugural round of Pop-Up Sessions at the SAA Annual Meeting in Cleveland, August 16–22. Pop-Up Sessions are envisioned as a way to liven up the annual program by focusing on ideas and content that may have popped up in the interval between November (when the customary program sessions are selected) and August. We also see this as an opportunity to bring in new voices and to encourage experimentation. We ask you to think outside the box and point us in new directions.

Submissions should be in the form of a simple narrative—of no more than 300 words—that explains the purpose of the session, its intended audience, and how the session will proceed. It is not necessary to name specific presenters, but a designated session leader must be identified. Please include contact information (institution, mailing address, email, and phone). If you are traveling during the summer, please include the name and contact information of a second contact person. We ask that Pop-Up submissions not be resubmissions of presentation proposals that were not selected for the 2015 program.

The Program Committee has no format preference; the session should be in the format best suited for the session’s purpose. All Pop-Up rooms will be equipped with standard media hookups. Rooms will be set either in theater-style or in rounds; we will do our best to accommodate your preference, but cannot guarantee a particular room set.

Submissions must be sent to conference@archivists.org by 11:59 PM, Central time, on Friday, July 17.

Five sessions will be selected by the Program Committee and notifications will be sent on August 1. Questions concerning the proposal process may be sent to the same address.

As we get closer to conference time, the Program Committee will announce another way to propose Pop-Up Sessions at the meeting itself. So, stay tuned—and see you in Cleveland!
