SAA Submits Orphan Works Comments to Copyright Office

January 29, 2013—SAA today submitted comprehensive comments to the Copyright Office in response to a notice of inquiry on “Orphan Works and Mass Digitization.”  Prepared by the Intellectual Property Working Group, the comments stress that “it is not possible to establish meaningful and uniform diligent search standards for all unpublished works.”  Read the full text of the comments here.

2013 Research Forum: Call For Participants / Call for Presentations

Join us for the 7th Annual SAA Research Forum: “Foundations and Innovations”!  Participants’ enthusiastic response to the past four Research Forums confirms that the full spectrum of research activities—from “pure” research to applied research to innovative practice—is of interest and value to the archives community. The 2013 Research Forum will build on previous success by continuing with a full day of presentations. Deadline for submission of abstracts: May 1, 2013.

National Guard Militia Museum Awarded Recovery Grant

December 4, 2012—The National Guard Militia Museum of New Jersey has received a $2,000 grant from the SAA Foundation’s National Disaster Recovery Fund for Archives to assist in recovery from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.  The Museum’s holdings include Civil War research files documenting the state’s role during the war and photos of the New Jersey National Guard from World War I to the present.  Read about the NDRFA – and donate to it – by clicking on the Donate Now! button on the SAA home page.

Slate Set for 2013 Election
